为推进海上丝绸之路与海洋社会经济史研究。2014年9月24-26日，中国经济史学会、中山市社科联、广东省社会科学院广东海洋史研究中心联合在中山市举办了"海上丝绸之路与明清时期广东海洋经济开发"国际学术研讨会，来自美国、澳大利亚、日本、韩国、中国内地和港澳台地区高校与研究机构的近百名学者出席会议。会后经编辑委员会认真审读，从70篇论文中精选54篇共65万字，结集出版，汇聚了国内外相关研究的*新成果，反映当下东亚海洋史研究的前沿水平。
