本书为高等学校地下工程类专业应用型本科系列教材之一，以培养学生英语专业文献阅读和翻译能力为主要目标。全书共分四个部分：*部分为专业英语的基础知识，主要介绍了专业英语的词汇特点、文体特点、结构特点及翻译的方法与技巧;第二部分为地下工程专业英文文献的选编，结合地下工程所涵盖的业务范围，集中选取了20篇英文文献,同时还选编了20篇阅读材料，作为读者进一步学习相关专业英语知识的辅助材料。第三部分为科技论文的写作，主要介绍了科技英语的基本知识与常用写作格式。第四部分为词汇表，汇总了选编英文文献中的生词与主要专业词汇，同时还汇编了相关建筑工程规范中的专业术语词汇表，使读者能准确掌握专业词汇的标准英语表达方式。
