本教材以我国英语学习者真实的写作过程(从信息收集、思路整理、概念阶梯、段落结构特征到正式文体的语篇特征、逻辑关系、连贯、前言和结语以及中式英语特征等)入手,强调写作过程的真实性和逻辑性。教材每单元以我国英语教育研究最新成果产出导向法为内容设计原则,将驱动、促成、评价三环节运用于每单元活动设计中。从驱动环节开始激发学生认识到自身知识和技能方面存在的不足,再根据学生的写作问题,提供内容、结构、语言上的促成活动;最后以评促学,有效实现单元教学目标和产出目标。
